Earlier this month, CYSD and Common Ground brought teams together in Bhubaneswar for a three-day capacity-building workshop on the Landscape and Multi-Actor Platform (MAP) Approach.
The premise was simple but demanding: the challenges communities face – food insecurity, water scarcity, distress migration, livelihood stress, climate change – are interconnected. So the solutions have to be too. That means looking beyond individual projects and village boundaries to the wider ecosystem of people, institutions, resources, and ecology that shape an outcome.
Over three days built around Purpose, People, and Process, teams from four landscapes – Saharpada, Thakurmunda, Dasmantapur and Titilagarh – mapped issues, stakeholders, and governance contexts, and began shaping shared purposes for collective action.
What stayed with participants was a shift in perspective – a landscape seen as a web of relationships, not a boundary. Understood this way, it becomes clear that no single actor can address the problem alone, and that meaningful change comes from a shared purpose, evidence to guide dialogue, and local ownership to sustain it.
