Transform Rural India and WRI, in collaboration with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) Commissionerate, Employment Guarantee Scheme Department (EGS), Government of Maharashtra, hosted the Restoration Policy Dialogues Maharashtra in Nagpur today.
Bringing together over 40 representatives from state departments—including forest, agriculture, social forestry, tribal and EGS—as well as civil society organizations (CSOs), the dialogue focused on advancing a collaborative landscape approach for restoring Maharashtra’s ecosystems. The panel discussion highlighted the importance of integrating existing state programs such as the Atal Bamboo Samruddhi Yojana, Green Maharashtra Mission, Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan, and Kanya Van Samruddhi Yojana to unlock multiple benefits for local communities. Panelists also emphasized bamboo’s potential for sustainable livelihoods, the role of Natural Resource Management under MGNREGS in driving restoration, and the critical contributions of CSOs in strengthening community engagement.
The dialogues also showcased learnings from Chandrapur district, where convergence-led restoration efforts are already building resilient, climate-adaptive rural landscapes.
