Dakshin Foundation is thrilled to join hands with ALT EFF for their film festival this year!
As the festival’s Knowledge Partner, we’re setting up a stall with Current Conservation (an art-based environmental science magazine), hosting a photo exhibition, and leading grounded conversations on seafood, livelihoods and ocean futures across Bengaluru and Mumbai.
Here’s what we have lined up:
Where: Seminar hall, Bangalore International Centre, Domlur
When: 6th December, 1 PM to 1:45 PM
From kitchens and fish markets to coastal villages and the ocean floor, four very different voices come together to rethink how we care for our coasts.
Join Chef Thomas Zacharias (Founder, The Locavore), Kumar Sahayaraju (Fisheries Researcher and PhD Candidate, Dakshin Foundation), Jerald Mary (Coastal leadership mentor, Palk Bay) and Mario Jude Fernandes (National Freediving Athlete and Freediving Instructor Trainer (SSI)) as they explore practical, culturally rooted and community-led approaches to conserving India’s marine environments. Moderated by Marianne Manuel (Director, Dakshin Foundation).
Where: Harkat Studios, Mumbai (Versova)
When: 14th December, 3 PM to 4:30 PM
Fishers are often seen as takers from the sea. But is that really all they are?
Shaunak Modi (Founder, Coastal Conservation Foundation) and Naveen Namboothri (Founding Trustee and Programme Head, Sustainable Fisheries, Dakshin Foundation) trace powerful examples from India’s shores where conservation and fisheries work together to secure a healthier future for oceans and the people who call them home.
Where: First Floor, Bangalore International Centre (BIC), Domlur
When: 6th & 7th December, 12 PM – 8 PM
A photo exhibition offering an intimate experience of the lives of India’s small scale fisher communities. Through photographs and stories, this exhibition shares a close-up and personal view of their deep relationship with nature, their cultural heritage and the challenges they face today.
We’re excited to share that our stall will be part of this exhibition at BIC on both days. Come by, say hello, browse a magazine, try an activity and stay for a conversation or two.
We’re looking forward to seeing you!
