Co-creating Pastoral Bio-Economy in Ladakh: A co-creation webinar

How can Ladakh use the transition towards warmer, low-carbon buildings to establish a viable pastoral biofibre industry that strengthens livelihoods, creates green jobs and supports the region’s ecological resilience?

Join us for a stakeholder convening on the Himalayan Carbon Mitigation Programme to explore how investments in warmer, energy-efficient buildings can strengthen indigenous wool value chains, pastoral livelihoods, and green employment in Ladakh.

Ladakh’s pastoral economy holds substantial potential in its indigenous pastoral fibres and offers opportunities for productive use in insulation and other value-added materials. Developing these resources can strengthen pastoral incomes and create enterprises rooted in the bioregion’s unique resources, knowledge and skills. A development paradigm supporting the ecological foundations of pastoralism, with economic value generated through better fibre utilisation, quality and processing, alongside responsible rangeland stewardship.

The Himalayan Carbon Mitigation Programme looks at establishing a phased pathway towards scaling and localising energy efficient biofibre insulation and active heating solutions for infrastructure in the cryosphere. read more
