Here are some key regulatory updates 
The Government has invited public comments on draft notifications of Ecosensitive Zones for Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (U.P.), Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (U.P.), Daying Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary (Arunachal Pradesh) and Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary (Kerala). Comments are invited to be submitted within a period of 60 days from the date of publication. Check out the newsletter to see more details for each notification.
A Few Highlights from MoEFCC’s Updates in Parliament (12–26 Feb 2026):
- 516 Environmental Clearances and 3,482 Forest Clearances were granted by the MOEFCC in 2025.
- 580 elephants were killed across the country between 2020–2025, with electrocution (73.96%) and train hits (13.62%) emerging as the leading causes.
- States could utilise only ~80.35% of the ₹1,146 crore allocated for afforestation schemes with West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala utilising over 100% of their allocations.

The government has invited public comments on:
- Draft notification amending the Environment Impact Assessment Notification, 2006 creating the Standing Committee on Environment Impact Appraisal (SCEIA) and Standing Authority on Environment Impact Assessment (SAEIA) in situations where the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) or State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) is not constituted.
- Draft ESZ of Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala
In the last two weeks, MOEFCC shared the following information in Parliament:
- India’s sewage treatment capacity stands at 31,841 MLD – approximately 44% of total sewage generated (72,368 MLD). 7 States/ UTs were reported to have no installed capacity.
- 298 of 1,003 villages have been relocated in Critical Tiger Habitats as part of the incentivised voluntary relocation packages. Madhya Pradesh (167 of 239 villages), Maharashtra (65 of 83 villages), Karnataka (28 of 113 villages) and Rajasthan (14 of 119 villages) were the leading States.
- 405th Standing Committee Report on Demands for Grants of the MoEFCC (2026-27) presented to the Rajya Sabha.
There was a parliamentary discussion on the “Working of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change” on 9th March.

New Rules and Amendments: Notification amending the composition of the National Board for Wild Life (NBWL) released on 12th March, 2026.
Updates from Parliament:

Central Pollution Control Board has 203 vacant posts out of 669. States with highest number of vacancies in their State PCBs are Maharashtra (860 out of 1310), Madhya Pradesh (814 out of 1220), and Gujarat (505 out of 794).

9,536 ha across 6 States/UTs taken up for mangrove restoration under MISHTI Scheme, but only 17.48% of ₹88.44 crores allocated through CAMPA has been utilised.

14,14,645 MT of e-waste generated in 2025–26 so far; 69.2% recycled. Leading States in e-waste recycling include Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana.
