About the webinar:

India’s Open Natural Ecosystems (ONEs), including grasslands, scrublands, and savannas, are among the country’s most neglected and misclassified ecosystems. In this talk, Dr Abi Vanak will explore the ecological importance of these landscapes, the threats they face from misguided policy and land use change, and the urgent need for a paradigm shift in conservation. He will also outline emerging policy opportunities and research directions that could enable more inclusive and evidence-based restoration of these ecosystems.

About the speaker:

Dr Abi Tamim Vanak is the Director for the Centre for Policy Design’s at the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE). A conservation biologist and ecologist, his work spans the interface of biodiversity, pastoralism, and land use. He has been at the forefront of advocating for the recognition and restoration of India’s grasslands and other ONEs, and contributes actively to shaping policy discourse on these vital ecosystems.

See you on the call.
