Walking Project

Hello, Walking Project was founded in 2012 as an advocacy effort focused on improving the walking infrastructure and experience in Indian cities. It was the only effort of its kind then and still.

If we are talking of climate action and justice then walking friendly cities with a good bus service added in has to be at the top of our focus. Numerous other agenda’s like urban heat island effect, trees and more automatically come into the ambit.

From May 2023 the Project has revived very well due to the joining of a young team member Vedant Mhatre. We have managed to create very relevant and insightful online content which has attracted significant engagement. We have also improved our engagement with the municipal corporation and other government. The finances have been supported through individual donations and a short grant from ASAR.

We need to create a robust budget for the coming year. At least Rs. 25 lakhs is what we are looking at. I am writing this post to catch the attention of the key decision makers at the Foundation and anyone else. Individual donations are most welcome and please do consider. You can check our social media handles on X, Instagram, Fb and Linkedin.

We have successfully conducted 22 Community Walks since last August and they are very well received by everyone. Coverage for one of them in the article below -

Will be happy to answer any questions. Hope to hear back.
