Strengthening climate narratives and knowledge access

Since our last update, IDR has continued to deepen intersectional climate coverage, highlighting how climate change intersects with health, livelihoods, gender, cities, and governance. We have focused on demystifying climate science and jargon through explainers and accessible storytelling, making the climate conversation more relevant to the social sector.

We have also expanded regional language efforts, strengthening climate coverage in Hindi and scaling translations into Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and Kannada to improve accessibility and regional resonance.

In parallel, we have begun laying the groundwork for a sector-wide climate knowledge commons. In a landscape where large generative AI models do not always provide grounded, India-specific, or practitioner-relevant insights, we see an opportunity to strengthen trusted, sector-informed knowledge infrastructure.

This exploration builds on IDR Answers, our AI-powered search and analysis platform that draws from IDR’s repository of fact-checked articles and practitioner insights. Since its launch, IDR Answers has been used to test programme hypotheses, draft policy briefs, identify collaboration opportunities, and synthesise complex social challenges. We are now in early conversations with ecosystem partners to understand what a shared climate knowledge commons could look like and how it might be responsibly developed. Rainmatter’s support over the past three years has helped us build and strengthen relationships across the climate ecosystem, creating the foundation for the convenings and partnerships now informing this work. In the coming months, we will continue strengthening intersectional climate narratives, expanding regional language accessibility, and prototyping this shared knowledge infrastructure in collaboration with sector partners.

As we explore the development of a shared climate knowledge commons and continue strengthening intersectional climate coverage, we welcome Rainmatter’s continued engagement, particularly through ecosystem connections, strategic inputs, and shared learning. As this work evolves from exploration to early prototyping, sustained and catalytic support will be critical to responsibly building and stewarding this shared infrastructure.

More broadly, we are keen to explore how IDR’s climate coverage and knowledge work can continue to align with and strengthen the wider Rainmatter climate ecosystem.
