Marking our third year, this report captures a shift we’ve been seeing in our own work and in the world around us. Heat and air pollution don’t act in isolation; they compound each other’s mortality risk. A state’s low-carbon transition plan matters just as much for trade competitiveness as for its climate goals. And the lines between “distinct” policy domains are often administrative conveniences, not a reflection of how these problems actually manifest.
This year’s report is about what it means to build institutions and frameworks that can embrace that complexity, rather than perpetuating silos.
Our work at a glance:
- New research linked heat and air pollution as compounding health risks, and reframed India’s coastline as one interconnected adaptation challenge
- We shaped NDMA’s national heatwave framework, and supported Himachal Pradesh’s climate-focused Human Development Report
- Partnered with Chhattisgarh to integrate climate into state policies, and contributed to NITI Aayog’s net-zero and Viksit Bharat scenarios
- Expanded the Energy Transition Preparedness Initiative to Assam and Telangana, and studied how national context shapes the design of climate policy instruments
- Exhibited ‘Making the ‘Invisible’ Visible’ on indoor heat and women’s unpaid labour, and convened energy transition dialogues in Odisha and Indonesia
- Grew to a 30+ team, with a 1:1 gender ratio across 12 disciplines
