SFC Quarterly Update (Apr–Jun 2025): Combined effects of air pollution & heat on mortality; what shapes green industrial policy design, & more

Hello,

From April to June 2025, we at SFC:

  • Examined the potential synergistic effects of ambient air pollution and heat on daily mortality in India.
  • Analysed and compared renewable energy auctions in India and South Africa, two countries with distinct institutional approaches and political-economic contexts, to understand how similar policy goals were shaped and prioritised differently through auction design.
  • Unpacked a climate policy modelling study, assessing its structure, implications, strengths, and areas for improvement.
  • Convened a roundtable to exchange perspectives on the institutional, regulatory, and market dimensions of India’s Carbon Credit and Trading Scheme.

In addition, we hosted a discussion with historian Jean-Baptiste Fressoz on his book ‘More and More and More: An All-Consuming History of Energy’, and collaborated with Purpose to organise a closed-door workshop in Bengaluru that brought together urban planners, researchers, designers, journalists, and community leaders to co-create grounded, community-led responses to extreme heat.

Here’s a roundup of these and other activities: SFC Quarterly Update (Apr–Jun 2025): Combined effects of air pollution & heat on mortality; what shapes green industrial policy design, & more.. We look forward to your thoughts and feedback!
