Rang De - Enabling Last Mile Financial Inclusion

“Rang De” serves as the umbrella brand for two distinct organizations:
RangDe.in - a social peer-to-peer lending platform, regulated by RBI, that provides affordable credit to the unbanked and underbanked population such as farmers, rural nano-entrepreneurs, women & youth collectives, and artisans in India

RangDe.org - a non profit organization that incubates innovative initiatives that intersect livelihoods, financial inclusion and climate change

Rang De began its journey in 2008 with a simple yet powerful belief—that access to affordable credit can help individuals and families move out of poverty. What started as a nonprofit initiative evolved into India’s first web-based peer-to-peer lending platform, enabling individuals to lend directly to underserved borrowers, particularly women, at affordable interest rates.

In 2017, with the introduction of regulatory guidelines for peer-to-peer lending by the Reserve Bank of India, Rang De was required to re-evaluate its structure, as non-profit entities were no longer permitted to facilitate lending. Staying true to its mission, the organisation transitioned into a regulated entity and, on 1st September 2019, became a registered NBFC-P2P platform. This shift ensured compliance while also strengthening Rang De’s ability to scale its impact in a more robust, transparent, and sustainable manner—continuing to serve underserved communities with dignity and trust.

Over the years, this model has facilitated access to credit for nearly 30,000 families, enabled disbursals exceeding ₹110 crores, and built a strong community of more than 11,000 lenders committed to inclusive finance. With customised interest rates tailored to sectoral needs and a strong focus on women—who constitute over 65% of borrowers—Rang De has demonstrated how technology and community participation can drive meaningful financial inclusion.

Rainmatter Foundation’s support has enabled Rang De.org to deepen its commitment to inclusive finance by strengthening access to affordable credit and building the capacity of grassroots institutions.

Through this collaboration, Rang De.org has partnered with grassroots institutions working across sustainable agriculture, artisan livelihoods, weaving, and rural micro-entrepreneurship, supporting communities in geographies such as Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh.

Key Highlights:

  • Grassroots partners engaged: 12 organisations engaged in the current cycle from November 2025 to March 2026
  • Communities reached: 150 individuals across farmer collectives, women-led enterprises, artisans, and rural entrepreneurs
  • Sectoral focus: Climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable value chains, artisan livelihoods, and inclusive entrepreneurship

The partnership is also contributing to the long-term resilience of community institutions by supporting their ability to engage with formal financial systems more effectively. By addressing both access and capability gaps, this initiative is helping build a more inclusive and responsive financial ecosystem.

Rang De.org remains committed to leveraging such collaborations to create sustainable pathways for underserved communities to access finance with dignity and confidence.
