Rains & Warrior Spirit - Peek into Q2 at Waste Warriors

Q2 was marked by heavy monsoon disruptions across Sahastradhara, Manali, and Uttarkashi, which damaged roads, homes, and two Waste Banks. Despite these challenges, our teams ensured continuity of waste services, supported affected communities, and rebuilt operations quickly—reflecting strong local ownership and resilient systems.

Impact Highlights

  • 441 MT of waste diverted from the environment
  • 50,000+ people engaged through awareness and behaviour-change activities
  • 13.37 lakh INR collected in user fees
  • 6.17 lakh INR unlocked from government bodies
  • 28,571 climate actions led by youth and citizens

Strengthening Local Systems : Communities continued to contribute significantly to the sustainability of waste services. Dehradun’s Model Ward achieved its highest user-fee collections to date, while Renuka Ji expanded from 37 to 200 participating households—each consistently paying the ₹100 user fee. Kempty reached 78% OPEX recovery, and Bir Panchayat revised household fees from ₹50 to ₹100 to align with real operational costs.

Operational Advances : The Dharamshala MRF processed a record 17,000 kg of low-value plastic. Harrawala MRF expanded wet waste processing to 1,200 kg/day with a combination of in-vessel and pit composting. In Sahastradhara, Paryavaran Sakhis improved household wet-waste practices, reducing landfill load by ~15%.

Community & Governance Gains : Shimla passed four new Panchayat by-laws, strengthening user-fee and accountability frameworks. Kasauli launched door-to-door collection across three Panchayats. Dharamshala Rural reactivated 241 households, raising paying units from 33% to 39%. In Uttarkashi, villagers prepaid user fees for up to a year to keep systems running through monsoon disruptions.

Youth, Tourism & Preparedness : YUWA mobilised 900+ students and enabled 2,500+ climate actions. Through Ecodaan, 439 travellers joined clean-ups and 320 took the climate pledge. This quarter, we also established a ₹25 lakh Disaster Relief Fund to enable swift response during future emergencies.
