NovoEarth - A company tackling the core problem of Plastic Pollution

NovoEarth powered by InvoViron Industries is a cleantech startup committed to solving two pressing global challenges—plastic pollution and poultry feather waste—by creating value-added, biodegradable alternatives to conventional plastics. Established with the vision of enabling a future free from single-use plastics, the company is pioneering the development of bio-based polymers derived from keratin protein extracted from waste chicken feathers, one of the largest underutilized agro-industrial byproducts.

Every year, millions of tons of single-use plastic enter landfills and oceans, while poultry processing generates massive quantities of chicken feathers that are often incinerated or disposed of improperly, leading to environmental hazards. NovoEarth’s proprietary technology addresses both issues simultaneously, converting feather waste into keratin-based biopolymers that are fully biodegradable, compostable, and capable of delivering functional performance comparable to traditional plastics.

Our product portfolio includes biodegradable resins and mulch films designed for packaging and agricultural applications. These materials not only reduce dependence on fossil fuel–based plastics but also enrich the soil when degraded, creating a positive environmental footprint. With support from government bodies, incubators like IIT Kanpur SIIC, and impact investors such as Social Alpha, NovoEarth has developed MVPs and is currently setting up pilot-scale production in collaboration with poultry processing facilities.

The company’s innovative business model, built on backward integration with poultry processors and third-party manufacturing partnerships, allows rapid scalability while reducing capital expenditure. This approach ensures that NovoEarth can deliver competitive, commercially viable solutions to industries urgently seeking sustainable alternatives.

At its core, NovoEarth embodies the principle of waste-to-value, transforming what was once considered waste into high-value, eco-friendly materials. Our long-term goal is to establish a robust ecosystem for sustainable polymers, empowering industries to transition seamlessly to greener materials while contributing to global climate action and circular economy goals.

Thank you Sarthak.

Where can we check out some of this being implemented? And could you also elaborate on the energy consumption for converting plastics into NovoBoards?

We are currently targeting the formwork application in the construction industry as our major application for NovoBoards. These boards have been effectively used in shuttering applications, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional plywood. You can find images of these applications in the following drive link:

Shuttering - Drive Link.

Other Applications - Drive Link.

At present, we are in the technical pilot stage, refining and optimizing our processes. As we move towards a proper commercial setup, we have strategically designed our manufacturing process to minimize energy consumption. Compared to conventional recycling methods that involve converting waste into pellets before creating useful products, we have eliminated this intermediary step. This innovation significantly reduces the energy required to convert plastic waste into NovoBoards, making our solution even more environmentally friendly.
