Nuclear power does look pretty clean as compared to all other sources of energy available today. Some outlier events have given them a bad perception, but only 300 nuclear reactors power 10% of entire global energy demands.

Statistically, Nuclear fission is cleaner and causes less death but the problem with fission is its uncontrolled chain reactions. We have built solutions but we fear unforeseen events. Since non of us have seen unforeseen events - we all fear the possible destruction it can cause. And hence so much scepticism.
