Industree Foundation and NSRLM Partner to Build Women-Led Bamboo Value Chains in Nagaland

Nagaland has always had one of India’s richest bamboo landscapes. The opportunity now is to build stronger value chains that create long-term economic opportunities for women while connecting the state’s bamboo resources to national and global markets.

Industree Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) to strengthen regenerative, bamboo-based livelihoods across the state. As the technical and knowledge partner, Industree will work with NSRLM to integrate 30,000 smallholder women farmers into the bamboo value chain and support the development of women-led collective enterprises.

The MoU was signed in Kohima by Shri Moa Sangtam, Joint Secretary, RD & Mission Director, NSRLM, in the presence of Shri Theose Thongtsar , Additional Mission Director, NSRLM; Shri M Rollan Lotha, COO, NSRLM; Dr. Sokishumo Kithan, SPM Farm, NSRLM; Neju George Abraham, CEO, Industree Foundation, and representatives from both organisations.

The partnership goes beyond cultivation. It focuses on strengthening every stage of the bamboo value chain, from certified plantations and processing infrastructure to new product development, traceable supply chains, and stronger market access. Together, these efforts will help create a more resilient bamboo economy for Nagaland.

This collaboration is part of the Bamboo Sub-Sector Initiative under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY - NRLM)], which aims to enable one million rural women to pursue bamboo-based livelihoods over the next four to five years.

For Industree Foundation, this builds on more than two decades of creating market-linked, women-owned enterprises through nature-based value chains and extends our partnerships with State Rural Livelihood Missions across Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, and Tripura.
