ABOUT THE RBI’S DISCUSSION PAPER ON CLIMATE RISK AND SUSTAINABLE FINANCE
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently published a Discussion Paper on Climate Risk and Sustainable Finance and invited comments from Regulated Entities and other stakeholders. The Discussion Paper starts with an overview of climate-related risks to financial stability and seeks views on policy measures to address the same. It conceptualizes broad guidance for all Regulated entities to incorporate appropriate governance mechanisms and strategies to mitigate various climate-related risks. Further, it raises important questions on the identification of climate risks and the integration of the climate risk management framework. The paper also relies on the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations such as a climate-related disclosure framework with a focus on four thematic areas- governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets.
