This is a pretty decent explainer of the various aspects of the issue. In Hindi, though with subtitles.
How expensive is Hydrogen in terms of extraction and infrastructure cost compared to batteries?
In case of long haul transportation, since green hydrogen is made by electrolyzing water, it will consume a lot of electrical energy. How long can a truck running on battery go by using the same amount of electrical energy?
Is hydrogen fuel a viable business model for long-haul trucking in India? (Reference)
Wanted to understand the economics and fundamental working principle of Green Hydrogen. I did small math and it seems with the limited technology Green Hydrogen for mobility is not sustainable.
One of the problems of limitation of technology. The current electrolysis is limited to just two water molecule
2H2O + Electricity → 2H2 + O2 (Electricity breaks the bonds between Hydrogen and Oxygen)
Hence the cost of production is higher however, research is going on to electrolyze more number of water molecules and other optimization to reduce the production cost.
There will still be problem of compression cost and transportation cost
However, Green Hydrogen is a good fit for industry application as the compression cost and transportation cost is almost zero.
