What is spread of Lantana?
Lantana camara one of the most notorious and widespread invasive plant species worldwide covers a large portion of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve! The map below (created by our drone imagery) depicts the spread of lantana across the NBR.
The video below shows the different ways with which we remove Lantana. Our removal techniques is based on the density of Lantana and can range between Manual and fully mechanised removal. Our removal system now incorporates a lantana shredder that helps shred lantana to biomass for biochar feedstock. This is one of the ways we create livelihood opportunities, remove lantana and help sequester carbon back to the soil.
