Data For India (dataforindia.com) is a public platform that aims to expand the understanding of India through data. We use large open public datasets to explore fundamental questions about the country and share reports to make key socio-economic concepts and trends accessible to a wide audience. Over time, we hope to build an essential knowledge base for everyone from the general public and students to experts and policymakers.
We are seeking to hire a talented and experienced Lead Front-end Engineer with a strong focus on React and general front-end development skills. This person will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our website, developing custom charting code, and contributing to our internal admin tool that queries large public data sets. Additionally, this role involves active participation in overall product and design discussions.
The qualifications we require include proven experience as a Front-end Engineer with a strong portfolio of projects; expertise in React, with a deep understanding of its core principles and ecosystem; proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with a keen eye for design and user
experience and some experience with data visualization libraries and tools (e.g., D3.js, Chart.js). Familiarity with backend technologies and APIs is a plus. Most importantly, we’d like them to share our passion for using data to drive insights, and an interest in socio-economic issues.
