Dasra D4GX India Empowerment Challenge - Applications Open!

Hello to the readers and members of the Grove Forum!

In a world brimming with challenges, the importance of data in solving complex developmental issues, like the climate crisis, has become undeniable. Access to data is also crucial for empowering communities for informed decision-making, promoting transparency and accountability towards addressing climate-related vulnerabilities, and ensuring effective service delivery towards building community resilience.

To enable a more inclusive data ecosystem that empowers communities to leverage data for social good, Dasra has been partnering with Bloomberg, Societal Platform, and Stanford PACS on the Data for Good Exchange (D4GX) initiative. D4GX is committed to supporting NGOs who enable data agency for vulnerable communities and strengthen the data-empowerment narrative in India. Since 2020, we have been hosting a series of events as part of D4GX with the aim of enabling data agency for India’s most vulnerable communities and also published a landscape report, ‘Data Matters’ that captures a model to highlight and solution for the 4 critical breakpoints to enable ‘Data for Good’.

After 2 successful years of D4GX India, and the D4GX India Empowerment Challenge, we have received 300+ applications from organizations developing data-led solutions, and built a community of 50+ NGOs who use data to solve for various societal problems. In our third year, we aim to further expand this community through the D4GX 2023 India Empowerment Challenge - an opportunity for NGOs to showcase their outstanding data-focused innovations.

We have 3 thematic tracks this year, listed below:

  • Data to Enable Learning to Livelihood

  • Data to Enable Community Resilience

  • Data to Enable Climate and Sustainability

This is an ideal opportunity for Civil Society Organizations who are eager to work with data led solutions. Applications from NGOs that use a GEDI lens (Gender, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) in their innovations are encouraged. Winners will be awarded with growth capital (3 grants of INR 10 lakh each), mentorship support, and networking opportunities to further their journey towards data-led empowerment. Further, a cohort of shortlisted NGOs (~12), will also be selected to receive mentorship support from Bloomberg and other data-experts.

Applications for the empowerment challenge are now open. Apply here, the last date of submission is 26th June, 2023.
