Community Forest Rights Training - April 2025 | Shivganga Update

The Community Forest Rights Training was conducted on 30 April 2025, with the participation of 60 community members from across Jhabua district.

The training focused on strengthening legal awareness among tribal communities on forest rights, self-governance, and constitutional provisions under PESA. By combining legal education with practical, on-ground exposure, the programme empowered communities to take ownership of their forest resources - encouraging collective decision-making, local leadership, and sustainable forest management for long-term conservation and development.

Key highlights of the training included:

  1. Discussions on the CFR process, its benefits, and the step-by-step procedure for claiming community forest rights.
  2. A collective review and evaluation of four years of progress in villages where CFR has already been successfully implemented, drawing key learnings and best practices.
  3. Strategic planning for expansion into new regions to scale impact.

With the preparatory phase now completed, Shivganga is set to begin implementation and outreach in 40 new villages across the tehsils of Rama, Petlawad, Meghnagar, and Thandla, focusing on CFR and PESA awareness, community handholding, and institutional strengthening at the village level.

This initiative reinforces Shivganga’s ongoing commitment to enabling tribal communities to exercise their legal rights while safeguarding forest ecosystems through community-led stewardship.
