We’re excited to share that Biome Environmental Trust has been recognized as one of six winners at the Karnataka Rural Water and Sanitation Sustainability Summit! Awarded a Rs 25 lakh grant by the Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Department, we’re now partnering on a pilot project to address water scarcity and sanitation challenges in rural Karnataka.
Building on our work in Devanahalli, we’re implementing a sustainable water circularity model in Doddajala Panchayat. This project aims to reduce dependency on deep borewells by establishing a water system that draws from shallow aquifers, replenished with diluted treated wastewater. By installing shallow filter borewells near Doddajala lake and integrating a treatment system to ensure BIS 10500 drinking water standards, the project seeks to provide a resilient, cost-effective water source that’s adapted for climate challenges.
The Doddajala Gram Panchayat has extended their full support, and we’re excited to start planning next week. Watch our Devanahalli story here for a glimpse of this vision in action: Devanahalli Story Video.
