The technical knowledge and community leadership of local young men and women at the village level will make the development process sustainable through the ‘Village Vision Saathi Hub’.
At Gram Vikas, strengthening local capacities is considered an integral part of the work. The young women and men from the communities where Gram Vikas works are trained to support planning processes and strengthen local institutions. They connect people with government systems and help villages work on their own priorities.
Since they are members of the community, they remain a part of village life even after the completion of projects implemented at the village level. The relationships they have built, their local knowledge, and the experience they have gained remain available when new challenges arise.
Across all the work of Gram Vikas, these locally rooted cadres take on different roles—from water security and health to livelihoods and local governance. However, they share a common purpose: to ensure that technical knowledge and community leadership remain within the village. The Village Vision Saathi Hub brings these young leaders together, creating a long-term support system for Gram Panchayats and their communities.
Development projects may not always become sustainable after they are completed because many projects leave behind infrastructure but do not give adequate attention to the process of sustainability. However, only a few projects leave behind the people required to keep that infrastructure functional. In this regard, Gram Vikas is promoting the development of skills among young men and women at the local level to make the development process sustainable.
