I like books which get to the point right away.
This one is the best book on no till vegetable farming I have read so far. Will recommend without any reservations:

And to really understand the science behind soil - this one is great - you don’t need to be a farmer to read this - useful for home gardeners or people who are just curious. Best part of the book is the set of thumb-rules at the end - keep those in mind, and you increase your chances of success growing as a gardener or as a farmer, manifold.
